CRASHDIET: "Rest In Sleaze" 9 Universal 2005 Review by Urban "Wally" Wallstrom, 19 August 2005 They've conquered my homeland Sweden with their "updated" version of 80's sleaze and cans and cans of hairspray. Crashdiet are pretty much the talk of the country due to a couple of hit-singles and now also TV commercial for "3", Sony Ericsson. You'll catch that freakin' phone commercial several times each hour with "Breakin' The Chains", screaming in the background. Wicked!!! Not to mention, they're signed to a major (Universal) and "Rest In Sleaze" is probably the best "real" sleaze release with a new act since the Shotgun Messiah & Nasty Idols days here in Sweden. In fact, forget that I ever wrote "updated", this is pure 80's sleaze (not sure the label would agree though?), with not even a shred of nu-metal or grunge influences. This is actually quite remarkable when you consider that all band members are in their early twenty's. Indeed, Crashdiet isn't about the usual, over-the-hill, old geezer, with a sentimental eager to take another stroll down memory lane. In the famous words of Twisted Sister... the kidz are back!!! The above mentioned "Breakin' The Chains", "Riot In Everyone", "Knokk Em' Down", "Tikket", "It's A Miracle", "Back On Trakk", are all sleaze of highest quality. It's a lovely mix of Shotgun Messiah, Skid Row, Faster girl thingycat, Poison, complete with really catchy sing-a-long choruses and everything. The opening first seconds of "Out Of Line" draws similarities to Mötley Crue and "Ten Seconds To Love", before it quickly transforms into Crashdiet and typical Swedish Sleaze. Downers? You betcha'... 10 tracks and merely 35 minutes of sleaze!!! what the heck is up with that?? perhaps they'll be selling this in the stores to the price of a EP? (fat chance). Another thing while I'm at it... not all of the tracks comes with guitar solo??? Still, a great production and a nasty attitude can do wonders, this comes highly recommended if you're into the classic L.A. sound of the 80's with a Swedish approach. Swedish release date: 24th of August, "Rest In Sleaze" will also be released during the autumn in: Japan, England, Germany, with more to come...

Biig big shame that CRASHDÏET is not included in this festival. With TIGERTAILZ (as headliners), ZAN CLAN, LOUD'N'NASTY I would have preferred thousand times CRASHDÏET than VAINS OF JENNA even if VAINS OF JENNA is a good band... But why not both of them, and PINK LIPS another Swedish band which would fit perfectly in that festival... Well, anyway, I will be there, travelling from Finland to stay the whole weekend in Stockholm and have a lot of fun. Don't know anybody in Stockholm, so if any of you here will go there and would like to hang around with me and have some fun just visit my site www.myspace.com/clawsofsin or send me instant message through this hellsinkivampires messageboard and get in touch with me... Shortly before 1:00 a.m. on Friday, January 20, the police in the Swedish city of Uppsala, north of Stockholm, were called to the apartment of CRASHDIET frontman David Hellman (photo) (a.k.a. Dave Lepard). He had not been in touch with his friends or family for 20 days and a close friend of his had entered the apartment and found him dead, reports the Swedish newspaper Aftonbladet. "There is no foul play involved in his death, other than that we don't know what the circumstances are," police spokesperson Christer Nordstrm told the newspaper Expressen. Zbeyde Gngodogmus is shocked by the news that her neighbor has been found dead in his apartment. They were acquaintances. "He was so sweet and very friendly," she tells Expressen. However, she had noticed a change in the rock star. Last week she met him at the local supermarket. "He looked so thin and was out of character," she says. During the first weeks of 2006, there were signs that everything was not well in the CRASHDIET camp. The other members were rumored to be fed up with Hellman's excessive drug intake and were on the verge of leaving, or already had left, the band. Both they and Hellman's family have declined to talk to the media at the moment. Hellman, 25, made no qualms about his sex, drugs and rock 'n' roll lifestyle. "We want to get hard rock back on track again and it's nice that it's getting bigger again," he told the Swedish music magazine Groove last year. "All the other crap is becoming so tiresome. I mean, hip hop people live the sex, drugs and rock 'n' roll lifestyle to a much larger extent than hard rockers do." Describing his lifestyle, he said: "You live in chaos, depend on welfare, are an addict and things f**king suck. That's why it often collides with the music; it's too much of the good stuff and the music is affected. You would need 48 hours per day, but you're so f**king stupid and get your priorities wrong." CRASHDIET were a Stockholm, Sweden-based Eighties hard rock-style band whose debut album, "Rest in Sleaze", entered the Swedish national album chart at position No. 12. They were reportedly the first "sleaze rock" band in over 10 years to be signed directly to a major company Universal Music. The group, whose members were said to be in their early 20s, were scheduled to make their U.S. debut in March at the South by Southwest music conference/festival in Austin, Texas. A video clip, dubbed "On the Road with Crashdiet 2005", was recently posted on their official web site: Real Media, Windows Media. In a joint statement released to the media, the surviving members of CRASHDIET Martin Sweet (guitar), Peter London (bass) and Eric Young (drums) said, "As a bandmember, but most of all as a person, we will miss him for all eternity. Dave was nothing but a genius and a very special person. CRASHDIET will definitely not continue as a band. CRASHDIET consisted of four people and now one has left us."
