Interview with Roger Ericson of The Throbs, July 2004.
What influenced the decision to reunite?
*Ronnie and myself got together in New Orleans almost two years ago, Thanksgiving eve it was, we had dinner together at some hotel there, went drinking at some jazz bars, talked about the good and the bad of past years and, well one thing led to another, over the next 6-9 months we all met up here and there, jammed once or twice and then, well guess that’s really it, the Cosmic powers you know, POW!
What best describes the style of music of The Throbs?
*Somebody recently said, after hearing a 1991 live recording from Dallas, Texas that he thought we sounded like a “punk version of Led Zeppelin”, which I thought was an interesting thought, yeah ?
How did it feel to be back on stage as The Throbs after all this time?
*About the same as it did back in 1991 with the exception of the somewhat “evil” feel that use to hang over the band back then, seemed as it was non present last we met which I guess is a good thing. It was also quite odd to realize that even though we had only 5-6 hours of rehearsal time behind us we somehow sounded much better than we used to, this of course was quite a positive surprise, you know ?
Have you had any interest from record labels?
*As I see it, we did not really have any interest from record labels back when we were signed to one, you know? So I am not expecting that to happen now, 13-14 years later, besides I seriously doubt that anybody in the group really cares any longer, about the record label thing that is, we just really like to play which, as naïve as it may sound is a rather nice feeling. Wish that would have been the case back then, who knows what would have happened…<br>
What are The Throbs plans for future material and merchandise?
*No plans at all really, as far as new material goes I guess between the four of us, all this time later there must be a lot of songs hanging around, you know ? As for releasing any of it, well, the second record was basically all written and much of it rehearsed when we were removed from the label in -91, a shame really, much of that material was really very, very good it would have given the band a whole new dimension. Some of the songs that were written that summer, you know with the intensity of all that was happening at the time were, well there was some very creative stuff being written I guess would be a fair statement.
Will the fans see any previous live videos or cd’s etc released?
*If we would find any which we thought was worth sharing then, maybe, but there are no immediate plans for anything of that sort.
Finally, where do you see The Throbs in a year?
*Definitely not at a very expensive Chinese restaurant in Beverly Hills
